She'd taped a cool new song off the radio, a friend told me some 30 years ago; she'd play it for me when I'd come to her place after school.

The song was "Hotel California," and my perception of music changed then and there, once and for all. I didn't even really understand the lyrics -- I had barely begun to learn English, and apart from everything else I sure as hell didn't know what "colitas" meant. But understanding all the song's words wasn't necessary. From the first chords played by Felder and Walsh, this song was different from anything I had ever heard before. Pictures Of The Other Side

I just got some interest on this album after I read it was not so pop as previous albums. Gareth is mature, his voice is much stronger. This is absolutely his best album ever! :)

I just got some interest on this album after I read it was not so pop as previous albums. Gareth is mature, his voice is much stronger. This is absolutely his best album ever! :)

Eagles Live

This is a fine recording of a great band. However I cannot recommend it and hence it only gets 2 stars.

The reason for this is that you might have thought that with an album cover which says EAGLES LIVE this would actually be a live a album. But no its not, in fact if you read the credits you'll find that there are overdubs added. So it should be called EAGLES LIVE (EXCEPT FOR THE OVERDUBS WHICH WE ADDED AFTER THE CONCERTS). Now if they called it that I probably would have given it 4 stars.

Shame, because the recordings are good, but if I wanted a studio quality recording, I'd have bought the original studio albums. Live is live, it can't be almost live unless its advertised as such!

I can understand the dismay of many Eagles fans, being presented with yet another compilation, a repackaging of the same oft-compiled material. It can seem like another of the Laurel Canyon crowd (Joni Mitchell is the prime example) preaching to us about the evils of materialism while they grow ever richer with reshuffled Best, Very Best and Very, Very Best albums. I suppose, as they are such keen environmentalists, there is some logic to all this recycling.

And yet...this IS a good album. For someone buying their first Eagles album, this is perfect. Attractively packaged, with good insert notes, it has 33 tracks that include all the essentials.
