I've been a Classic FM fan for years now and I was delighted when I heard this three CD box set being advertised on the radio. It's absolutely packed with some fantastic pieces of classical music. Some of them I was familiar with - and others - like Spohr's Clarinet Concerto have been a real ear-opener for me. This has gone to the top of the pile of my favourite CDs - and I would recommend it 100% to all music lovers. Whether you already know a lot about classical music and want the highlights of your collection on just three discs - or whether you are just turning on to classical music for the first time, I guarantee you'll love The Sound of Classic FM.

I have to confess I am not a classical music buff and know only the most commercialised of the pieces - which comprises quite a large section of this CD. However there were a few new pieces that I had not heard before and Nulla in Mundo pax Sincera is one of the most beautifl classical opera pieces that I have ever heard. Perhaps this CD will not appeal to true classical enthusiasts, but if you are, like me, looking to expand your Classical collection with something both safe (in that you have heard of some of the pieces) and slightly groundbreaking (some of the pieces although popular are still relatively new to most non classical music officianados) then this is a good choice.

For a relaxing couple of hours just to yourself, plug in the headphones and sit back and enjoy. The music flows pleasantly from soft and light to that more uplifting fibrancy that pulls you and your heart and mind to an edge of pleasure but without going overboard into the more emotional and vibrant pieces. For myself i have preferred using a travel mask to totally remove myself from the house around me! Really relaxing!
