The series of 12" 80's era CD box sets highlight just what a rich tapestry of output this period had, and reading through the reviews, also how opinions divide so much over track listings.

Dealing with the track listing issue, I won't be doing a track by track analysis as others have already done so (no point in repeating others work), and I reckon if you are looking at the items page, the track listing, and my review, you will already know if this album is what you want, and if you know or like the tracks or not.

The albums in the 12" series seem to average between 30-40 tracks, so back in the day (let alone now at collectors' fairs) to buy all of the tracks included would cost at least a £120 or more. You can now buy a collection ... Read More:

This is a very decent compilation of alternative pop and rock from the 1980s. But the track listing makes it look sensational, as if all these bands have done covers of each other's songs. Imagine: The Jam doing Cattle and Cane! Magazine's take on Oblivious! Who wouldn't smile at the thought of They Might Be Giants covering Mercy Seat? Julian Cope has more right than most to have a crack at 24 Hour Party People. Etc.

Unfortunately, the tracks and artists have all got misaligned in the listing above and they're all the original versions. Sigh.
