Now, after Will White's sudden illness has subsided, we wonder WHERE ARE THE PROPELLERHEADS? Ah well, while we wait for their supposedly 'forthcoming' album, we have this old EP taken from their current album to whet our appetite. The outstanding Crash! heads this up, along with You Want It Back (feat. Jungle Brothers) and 360' (with De La Soul). The superb Props Vote Of Gratitude displays the Propellerheads' humourous side, as Alex Gifford takes up the mike (much to the Jungle Brothers' pleading for him not to do so). An excellent mini-album, really does show the Props at their best (buy this before you go headlong into DecksAndDrums, just to see if you like their style which I'm sure you will) Unfortunately, Crash! wasn't allowed to chart, ... From the great 90s 'dance' scene that saw the likes of Underworld, Orbital, The Chems, Fatboy Slim and Prodigy along came this one-off effort which IMO stands alongside the best albums these bigger name acts produced. I hadn't played it for a couple of years until last week and now it's on permamnent rotation..almost. Unlike most 'dance' albums this hasn't dated and sounds fresher than pretty much anything currently doing the rounds. It's also a rare album you can play straight though without skipping any tracks and this sure is one of those unusual beasts. The highlight though is the reworking of the James Bond OHMSS theme, IMO the best version of any Bond tune..ever. This is 9 mins of funky breakbeat fury overlaid with David Arnold's lush orchestral ... Read More:

Every so often, an album of truly funky genius pops up and makes you want to write a movie just to set scenes to the songs. Unfortunately for anyone just arriving at the Propellerheads' seminal work, you've largely been beaten to it. Rarely a year goes by when there's no film released with at least a few bars from this album hidden away on it.
Where, to give just one example, would The Matrix have been without Spybreak to accompany the excellent `Government Lobby' scene?
This album shines from the opening bars of Take California, right through to the Jungle Brothers' remix of the same track (though cleverly renamed `You Want It Back') over an hour later. There are some lull's, but never a moment when you are not being taken on ... Read More:
