This English rendition of Puccini's Madame Butterfly had my rather skeptical at first. I decided on getting it for two reasons: my friend couldn't handle the original Italian and I was curious. I listened to it and there were many good things about it: Not too much was lost in the translation (i.e. in the duet at the end of Act I instead of "the night is serene" this one says " the starlight is shining"), the voices sound like it was in a studio instead of an opera house so it sounds slightly distant. Also a slight irk of mine is that the Pinkerton sounds a little too English for my tastes but that's just me.
