A classic LP of long-forgotten proportions. JCC joined the list of ones that got away a long time ago. Foul-mouthed poetry over the half-remembered echo of the Invisible Girls versus the nails-on-glass stacatto of his raw live outings. Mr Mediocrity never resided here my hollow friend.
Surprising to see this re-release with extra live tracks then.
Oh yes, they called him the punk poet you know. Haha.

This is just how I remember hearing Johnny Clarke live: raw, rude and raucous! The feel of the venue is all there, his words virtually obscured at times by the hecklers, which adds verité but sadly detracts from the home listening experience. Most of the disc is unaccompanied Clarke, although there a couple of tracks with instrumentation by a group who appear to be called The Prime Time Suckers. The cd comprises a set of Clarke's earliest rehearsal tapes and live recordings, and was originally his first vinyl lp, released in 1978. Some of these poems found their way onto later releases, in tidied-up, studio versions. If you're familiar with the "gruff northern poet", please add this to your collection; if you're not, however, I suggest ... Read More:

Calling Planet Earth is a three CD box set containing three above average live CD's from a period spanning 1966-1971 which is commonly considered to be his best. The naming of these CD's is bizarre and further confuses the Ra catalogue. Outer Spaceways Incorporated was previously released as Pictures of Infinity and contains a collection of live and studio tracks from the mid to late sixties (good stuff). Spaceways was originally released as Outerspaceways Incorporated and was later released as A Tonal View of Times Tomorrow Volume 3. It is a typicall mix of live and studio tracks from 1966 to 1969. Calling Planet Earth is a Danish gig from December 1971 and while a lively recording suffered a bit in the editing for release. The track ... Read More:

This album is mediocre in my opinion, but it all depends on what you like. 'queen bitch of rock & roll' has no political statements and isn't always politically correct. they're just a band rocking away, having fun, and when you get right down to it, that should be what punk rock is all about.
