The intro left me slightly confused: what was happening? What would the next song be like? Then it came into Are You Happy Now, and I realised. It is much, much darker compared to Everywhere, the first Track on the Spirit Room and shows a different side to Michelle.
The songs feature more great guitar and amazing lyrics. Michelle includes slightly more piano, which features throughout the song One Of These Days.
Overall, a fantastic album that is every bit mind-blowing as its predecessor. Must-buy for Michelle Branch fans and for everyone who hasn't heard her songs.

Michelle Branch has come a long way. The first 'anti-Britney', a girl who simply stood behind her guitar and let her music do the talking. Songs such as 'Everywhere', 'All You Wanted' and 'Goodbye to You' were excellent, well crafted songs, especially when you consider that they were written when she was 14 years old...
Her second major release 'Hotel Paper' seems to be a sort of diary, recalling times on the road and of course - love gained, yearned for and lost, and with all the emotions in between. 'Hotel Paper' is grittier and edgier, but loses some of the song writing class of the previous album. Some songs do stand out, such as the charming 'Hotel Paper', 'Tuesday Morning', 'Empty Handed' and my personal favourite, the Phil Collins ... Read More:

Its a real shame michelle branch hasnt matched her state-side success here in the UK, because she is a real talent and is light years ahead of many of her chart topping teen counterparts. "Breathe", the second single off "Hotel Paper", her most recent LP, is the perfect blend of guitarry riffs and sweet melodies, with just the right amount of uplifting twang to it. Truly amazing, and only a taster of the great material which comprises the rest of her album. it was in a recent episode of sex and the city, so if it's good enough for SJP then it's certainly good enough for the rest of us :) Strongly recommended!!

It's sad but true, pop kids ... had my older brother not bought this album back in '78 there's some chance I'd have never heard it to this day. I've still not known anyone else in possession of a copy, let alone hear anyone rave their trousers off about it. The mod revival thing is a little misleading, not least because it might make you lump the band in with all those second division bands that major labels were scrambling to sign in '79. The Jolt was an altogether more fiery beast and this album captures that perfectly - in that respect they've more in common with the Chords, another great band from the time who hid a punky sneer behind their pageboy barnets ...
OK, everyone has their favourite 'great lost' albums - but this truly is one ... Read More:
