Though there's a few much anthologised items here such as the title track its mainly a collection of pretty obbscure stuff which is as good as it got at this time.
Probably nothing from here was issued in the U K at the time-not even the Atlantic label had a license here till later in the 50s.
The last track -Stormy Weather by the 5 Sharps-is apparantly the most expensive collectable in the World because all the copies except a couple perished in a fire!
Release Date October 01, 2002
I love this collection of songs. He really has a unique voice full of character, as most would like the blues to be. Sadly not many people have heard of him, and a £28 price tag ain't gonna help.
Unfortunately because of the era (and also recording budget) the sound quality is very thin and weak and doesn't have the desirable rich distorted valve quality that some other blues numbers do from this time.

I bought this double CD to listen to some music for a course of study I was following and it was adequate for that. But whilst it might be of some historical interest, the simply atrocious sound quality means that it is just about impossible to enjoy listening to the music presented on these CDs. It is not clear from the very scanty sleeve notes exactly when the songs were recorded, which could have been any time from the late 1920s to the early 1940s, and I know that sound recording techniques were somewhat rudimentary during that period. However, despite claiming to have used "state of the art digital re-mastering" techniques, the sound of this music is mostly very thin, muffled and distorted.
