This is even better than its predecessor. There's more confidence in the playing and the programme is especially well chosen, with its emphasis on I-never-knew-it-was-called-that tunes. Fans of the Archers will be pleased to hear its signature tune in its entirety. The whole programme is top-drawer but unexpectedly my special favourite is Finck's In the Shadows--I'd heard it before but this time the tune really got into my blood. Good to see this series continuing.

It's not surprising that the revival of interest in British Light Music that accompanied the series of Marco Polo anthologies in the 1990s should have led EMI and others to reissue parts of their back catalogue of the genre. This is a compilation of some of the plums from several collections recorded at intervals between 1955 and 1970. The remastering has been done with the utmost care and certainly freshens the presentation of the music. Throughout one is delighted by the affection, vitality and, where appropriate, humour injected into these wonderful little pieces. This is without doubt a collection to be enjoyed by all but some collectors will find that it duplicates items that they already have, so it might suit particularly well somebody ... Read More:
