What I know about classical music could be written on the back of a stamp. The only thing I do know is what I like and what I don’t like. So for a beginner with no idea where to start I bought the Sven Goran Eriksson Classical Collection. Mainly I bought it because it had such a variety of composers and also had a few tracks that I knew I liked. Any misgivings I had about this cd were quickly quashed. This is an absolutely fantastic collection of music. It’s relaxing, chilled out and just what you need on the drive home from work. Whatever you think of Sven…..he’s got some great taste in music. Stirring compilation geared to the curious fan looking for Classical of a more tempestuous temperament!
The audio quality & all the performances are all excellent (no dusty mono recordings here!!)and what a fantastic tracklist. Tchaikovsky, Holst, Wagner, Prokofiev, Mussorgsky, Stravinsky and even Hans Zimmer with the battle music from Gladiator.
So much superb Wagner here as an introduction, and such masterpieces as The Rite Of Spring, Mars The Bringer Of War & excerpts from Pictures At An Exhibition - Just way too many to list, and this is probably my favourite compilation of all!
I'd recommend this and Heavy Classix from Amazon UK as a superb companion piece.
Definiteley one geared towards the fans of Nightwish, ... Read More:

About everyone enjoys the Last Night of the BBC Proms. Many love the old songs like 'Rule Britannia' and 'Jerusalem'. Yet there is so much more here like Shostakovitch's 'Tea For Two' and Berlioz's 'Hungarian March' to enjoy. But it loses that final star for having to many omissions like Holst's 'Mars' and Elgar's 'Nimrod' which could have made this a perfect set.
