It's not too often that a debut album really grasps both the attention and the imagination of the casual listener, and this Caspian effort is no exception. However, if you're willing to sit down and listen to the entire album properly, the time is exceptionally well spent.

Caspian are certainly not your typical band. Whilst some might be turned off by the distinct lack of immediately attention-grabbing music from the word go, they've certainly produced a diamond of innovation. The album as a whole could almost be one song, with multiple layers- it feels like an atmospheric journey, rather than individual songs with individual meanings. Whilst the album is fairly short at just under half an hour, the songs are well worth it.

Sea Shanties

Frighteningly HUGE riffs overlaid with screaming guitars and violin. High Tide's first album "Sea Shanties" must have disconcerted a number of innocent purchasers (perhaps like the legendary King Crimson concert in front of a crowd expecting some gentle Soul music...)

No let up in these tracks - which power along in a timeless fashion - could be something from a 90's Smashing Pumpkins clone, or else fall-out from a Pearl Jam session.

Just the sort of thing if you have a headache - you will certainly not notice it whilst playing this. Loud. Very loud. VERY VERY LOUD. Ouch!

This just riffs and riffs like a demented Hawkwind (if you like 'in search of space' one chord played incessantly) for sixteen minutes then be my guest. I find apart from 'blankman' almost unlistenable. Much improved sound of course but as crappy as i remembered it from 71.
