Despite getting two complete albums on one cd here, sadly this time what you also get are two very poor albums.
The first 'Real People' came out at a time when Rodgers and Edwards were probably the most in demand writers and producers in the R&B world. Maybe its not surprising then that things sound rather tired and forced and 'Real People' still stands as one of the finest examples of songwriters 'giving away' their best songs. I can't believe this has not yet been reviewed - does this mean that very few people have actually ever bothered to buy it? If so it's a crying shame as it is a fantastic collection.
A few of the songs are mere alternate versions of album tracks, some are a bit too silly, but most of them would have well deserved a place on the albums that their respective sessions produced.
My particular favourites are 'The World Is Full Of Angry Young Men' recorded, if I remember rightly, for the old daytime TV program 'Pebble Mill at 1' (remember that??) and 'Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen' (completely silly, but utterly addictive, hummable tune).
If you're an XTC fan get this before the likes of 'Go2' and 'Big Express' - it's much more enjoyable. ... Read More:

I bought this as a newcomer to Stokowski, but a big fan of Pictures at an Exhibition and initially was impressed with the early parts, The Old Castle being particularly entrancing. Unfortunately, Stokowski's decision to jettison Tuileries and The Market-place at Limoges for being "too french" (surprising that a piece about a French city should sound French!) leaves the work uneven, without the lightness to counterbalance the gloom of other pieces.
