In my view the best Alpha & Omega recording available, and a classic of its genre. For those unfamiliar with A&O, this is dub reggae, stripped down to the bare minimum. Two things make this recording stand out -- first is the bass lines, the centrepiece of each track. Accompanying drum tracks are excellent, as are the light keyboard, guitar and sampling use. The bass is as deep and throbbing as it can possibly get, but at the same time it is well controlled and very tight. I've heard them being described as "dub in the roots tradition". Secondly there are the vocals of Nishka -- a singer who really deserves to be huge in her own right. Her voice is so mellow, so calming. The opening track, Jah Protection, is superb. Very very very ... Read More:

This is Kristofferson's debeut. Released in 1970. It contains classics "Sunday Morning Comming Down" and "Me and Bobby Mcgee" that have inspired many cover versions by people such as Jonny Cash and Jannis Joplin. His voice is perfectly warm yet rugged, a quality that is essential when delivering these songs of experience with such authority(To beat the Devil). The lyrics are brilliant as are the musicians, who playing on the funkier side of country and display a great feel for the songs. You get four bonus tracks, extended cover notes and some interesting early photos of Kris and the band.

This is was recorded in New York 1972. The quality of the recording is great, you can hear everything. There are 24 tracks here and feature performances by Willie Nelson, Larry Gatlin and Rita Coolidge joins Kris on a couple of tracks too. His band is great as ever(Tery Paul(Bass), Donnie Fritts(Keys), Sammy Creason(Drums), Stephen Bruton(Lead Guitar) and Mike Utley(Organ). They kick the tunes out in a style that is true to the studio versions but with a raw edge(particularly "Border Lord" and "Jesse Younger" they sound massive!) Kris's voice and humour are on top form also!
Release Date October 25, 1990
The proof of Kristofferson's craftmanship as a songwriter lies in the fact that songs like Me and Bobby McGee, Help Me Make It Through The Night, For The Good Times and Sunday Morning Coming Down have been covered thousands of times by artists from many different genres. This collection displays his literate songwriting while his gruff vocal is somewhat reminiscent of Willie Nelson. I also considered him to be straddling a position between country and folk, and this album is more folk than country with its incisive social comment as on Blame It On The Stones and The Law Is For Protection of the People. He introduces Bobby McGee with the words: "If it sounds country man, that's what it is, this is a country song." Besides the above-mentioned classics, the ... Read More:
