This is Kristofferson's debeut. Released in 1970. It contains classics "Sunday Morning Comming Down" and "Me and Bobby Mcgee" that have inspired many cover versions by people such as Jonny Cash and Jannis Joplin. His voice is perfectly warm yet rugged, a quality that is essential when delivering these songs of experience with such authority(To beat the Devil). The lyrics are brilliant as are the musicians, who playing on the funkier side of country and display a great feel for the songs. You get four bonus tracks, extended cover notes and some interesting early photos of Kris and the band.

This is was recorded in New York 1972. The quality of the recording is great, you can hear everything. There are 24 tracks here and feature performances by Willie Nelson, Larry Gatlin and Rita Coolidge joins Kris on a couple of tracks too. His band is great as ever(Tery Paul(Bass), Donnie Fritts(Keys), Sammy Creason(Drums), Stephen Bruton(Lead Guitar) and Mike Utley(Organ). They kick the tunes out in a style that is true to the studio versions but with a raw edge(particularly "Border Lord" and "Jesse Younger" they sound massive!)
Kris's voice and humour are on top form also!
