I agree with Mr Barber that this is a great selection but how can any 60's album not include virtually any of the iconic british bands of the era? I could not count for certain 10 brit bands on these 5 discs.

What can I say about Volume One of the Nuggets compilation that hasn't already been said, this album after all is still one of the most important purchases I have ever made.
The cheap price tag of this collection on its own is quite frankly daft, but with the array of quality songs from relatively unknown bands being quite literally immense on this compilation, as a starting point you can't really do much better. So in short, you have no excuse, you need to have this compilation in your collection now.
Originally compiled and released in 1972 on the Sire Record label, by Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman with help from Lenny Kaye, Nuggets is a superb gateway to the 1960's Psychedelic and Garage scenes. I play at ... Read More:

This Cd plays like a dream. Surf, soul, protest songs and pop nestle side by side to create a 75 minute wonder of American hits from years gone by.
The ever impressive Van Morrison's 'Brown eyed Girl' leads onto gems such as The Left Banke's much loved and often covered 'Walk Away Renee', The gorgeous Shangri-la's finger clickin' melody 'Walkin' in the Sand' evokes the sound of the sixties perfectly. Whilst Bob Lind's 'Elusive Butterfly' is at once whimsical and over earnest but sits alongside the other tunes as a wonderful reminder of pop from a golden age.
This CD makes you wish that you were driving around California in a convertible during the late sixties. And you can just about summon the feeling purely from the music, even if you live in Surrey ... Read More:

NUGGETS-for 20 odd years the be all and end all of Garage and Psychedelia. The standard by which all future comps of this kind are set
Who says so? THEY do-the critics who suddenly woke up after years of being bombasted with boring prog rock and boring AOR.Somehow these same critics realised that punk was in line of descent from the Garage band even though the 60s garage band was musically superior.
Course Garage is just a generic title to give the music which was America's answer to the British Invasion. The Knickerbockers and the Turtles probably never began in the garage-they were there before the Invasion playing Surf music
Yet even here there's things which never deserved this high placing on the Bible of Garagedom.I mean how did a non song like ... Read More:
