However this particular collection is very useful for those that lived through the era. What were you doing when this song was first out? It is more economical to indulge one's memories with this collection than it is to try to get each album which in turn will still have tracks that are less than top notch.

For the uninitiated this is a great starting point, 51 tracks spread over 44 years showing a master lyricist at work. 90% of the selections are perfect and couldn't possibly have been left off but there are certainly some ommisions. Why only one track from Highway 61 revisited - even if that one track is Bob's best moment, Like a rolling stone. Surely Desolation Row should have featured and Ballad of a thin man. Three tracks from Oh Mercy is one or two too many and they're not even the best tracks. Brownsville Girl is a dodgy choice. Two other big ommisions are Mr Bojangles and Every grain of sand. And the choice of tracks from 'Modern Times' is poor with two of the weaker tracks making it - why no 'Working man's blues or Ain't talkin'. I ... Read More:
