However, if you like the pop sound of the 70's, the era of the 3 minute (or less!) pop song, or songs with incredibly daft lyrics you will love this! All 20 tracks here are not only full of the essence of the 70's but remind one of a time when pop music was essentially fun and everybody seemed to have a sense of humour. Freddy Fender's first records were Mexican language versions of Presley songs and he was known as the Be Bop Kid.In 1957 he recorded some songs for the Duncan label one of which was Wasted days & wasted nights.However his career was stopped because of his conviction for marijuana possession and he ended up in the Angola State Prison.
Probably prisons were less dangerous places then than they are now as Fender-still using his real name of Baldemar Huerta-actually cut his first album inside!Its now on CD as Live from the Angola State Prison
In the mid 70s he suddenly became a huge country star as the Duncan single was re recorded for MCA and made No 1 Over the years he charted around 18 titles on the country charts and a number on ... Read More:
