Search: Repeal Of The Licensing Laws
by: The Pogues
Release Date March 07, 2005
If there is little or no Pogues in your collection, and there most certainly should be, this could be a great place to start, as disc one gathers all their most influential material; the singles, key album tracks and even a B-side (The Repeal Of The Licensing Laws), while the soul of the band is laid bare on the second disc, the previously unreleased reunion concert that took place over two legendary nights at the Brixton Academy on the lead up to Christmas 2001, with Shane MacGowan back with the band for nearly all the lead vocals (so far as I can tell Spider Stacy takes the lead on Tuesday Morning, Terry Woods sings Young Ned of The Hill, Phil Chevron sings his own Thousands Are Sailing and Lila MacMahon guests with Shane on a rousing Fairytale ... Release Date June 02, 2008
I love the Pogues but there's a reason most of this stuff was never released. There's a few great tracks on here but I doubt I'll listen to most of it ever again. This is certainly for fans only.

Release Date December 16, 1997
Released the year after `The Best of the Pogues' this was to plug the gaps left by that album as well as maintain interest in the New Pogues who had by now decided Spider Stacy would come from behind his tin whistle to become the new singer. Stacy had previous deuted with MacGowan on some two handed songs and generally had a lead vocal on most of The Pogues albums of which `Jesse James' was possibly the most successful. In order to promote the album Stacy's lead vocal on The Stones `Honky Tonk Women' was dragged of the 12" of `Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah' onto the collection and also released as a single.
The single, this album and indeed The Pogues Mark 2 failed to make any impression on the worlds consciousness however if coupled with the original ... Read More:

Release Date December 13, 2004
Like most people, my initial introduction to the Pogues came via that perennial yuletide favourite, Fairytale of New York - a great song that would act as the creative yard-stick to which all future Pogue-related releases (and Christmas singles) would be measured, due in part to the excellent production of Steve Lilywhite - which managed to perfectly capture the instrumental prowess of the band at their most polished, whilst simultaneously making the evocative gutter-poetry of Shane MacGowan relevant to even the most bourgeoisie of middle-class musical aficionados. As great as that song is (and the album from which it came), The Pogues were always better when producing work that captured the same wild, rambling and often shambolic spirit and feeling that would make ...
