Massive Attack were recording and mixing this album in the Bristol studio where I was doing some training at the time. I'd heard of them but never heard their work and was drawn in by the mixture of dance rhythms and ambient melodies that remind me of lullabies. I found it fascinating. I heard that the film had changed names after the album was released but only recently found out its new name (Unleashed). To me, when heard as a complete work, the music has a connected feel which must be because it's a film soundtrack. Or maybe it's simply because I already know it's from a film. Even so, it feels more connected than The Crow, The Matrix or Spiderman 3, as much as I like those too. There's also a personal angle as with anyone with whom you get ... Read More:

This is the same album as Danny the Dog.

Danny the Dog is the Hong Kong (English) name for the film. Unleashed is the American name for the film. I found this out when listening to the cd thinking, "I've heard this before". Looking online I found that the film was rebranded and I already had the soundtrack to Danny the Dog....

Great music nonetheless.

This is the soundtrack Massive Attack have produced for 'Danny The Dog' (pre-release title) / 'Unleashed' (final release title in more 'suitable' American marketing speak).

It is not a traditional album release. As a soundtrack, it has a different format in its aural presentation: it is meant to support the film's visual and spoken narrative, whilst not taking precedence. However, it is far more than just 'background music', and is typically engaging, challenging and intensely creative in its own right.

I did find, however, that somewhat of a prequisite was to watch the film beforehand. This allowed for more of a personal connection to be established, and lent much more perspective.
