I am very confused by this album. I am a huge fan of runrigs and have seen them 3 times live. as far as i am aware this is not even an official runrig album, if you look on the web site it is not listed, all 17 of the other albums are, but not this one, so i am not sure of the origin. If you are a runrig fan already and just want to buy all the albums to have a complete collection then by all means buy this album, it does have a couple of good track s on it. but i can gaurantee it will not be one of the 6 in your 6 cd auto changer regually. If you are new to runrig then your money would be better spent on one of the other albums, runrig - long distance is a great starting point as it is a best of, but any of the albums, you wont be dissapointed.

A more refined selection than the Long Distance album it features great Live versions of The Greatest Flame and Wonderful, a word that sums up this collection entirely. It'll have your foot tapping, hands clapping, you just won't want to sit down! A tour of your emotions, let it take you! Unmissable!

BBC Session and Live at the Royal Concert Hall

The BBC session part are unreleased traks of varying quality with Nicky Campbell 3-4-89. The Live CD is a Donny Munro lead 1996 gig and makes the CD worth getting. The 2nd CD is a re-issue of Long Distance.

Overall worth having but it is really only for the Runrig fan.

Long Distance: The Best of Runrig

Although not representative of the mind-blowing sound of Runrig today, this album is a good retrospective of the sound of Runrig from their early days in the 70s until the resignation of singer Donnie Munro in 1997.

The 80s and 90s anthemic classics "Alba", "Protect and Survive", "Hearthammer" and the first (and only) Gaelic song to get into the UK Top 20 "An Ubhal as Airde" are included here. Although at times the production sounds slightly dated, the sheer quality of the songs always shines through.

Runrig in 2008 are a vastly different (and in my opinion far superior) band to the sound on this CD, but the songs on this CD still beat hands down all their contemporaries of the time.

Wasteful as in the entire contents of this 6 CD box could have been fitted on 3 CDs - but of course the point is to house each CD in a facsimile of the original sleeve. Also wasteful as in some of these CDs overlap slightly (Pressure Drop appears 3 times, for instance, once in a horrible stereo mix).

Classy as in this is a fine bunch of music, as one would expect from a set which features the superb Toots & The Maytals in their late 60s/early 70s prime. 3 of the albums are produced by Leslie Kong (the second Jamaican producer to get a record in the UK Top 20 after Prince Buster, and the first to get a UK #1), and the first CD is a quality ska collection from the Byron Lee stable.
