EssentialSearch: Roads by: Junior Walker The All Stars Junior Walker And The All Stars Release Date February 28, 2000 Jnr Walker hardly fitted Berry Gordy's "Sound Of Young America" image for Motown, being easily the oldest of the labels stars. His sound wasn't really that typical of Motown either with a voice that was 'rougher' & more gritty than the labels usual sound. He also played sax & was (I think) the only instrumentalist to have hits for Motown. In the early days the sax was raw & usually found on Junior's more obviously Motown songs such as "I'm A Road Runner" & "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You" & his No. 1 song "Shot Gun". Hand Clappin' Foot Stompin' Funky-Butt...Live!Search: Roads by: Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band Release Date Well I went to see these guys last night (Glasgow), and although Geno was without the original band members, the new band were absolutely excellent. Now I'm 22 years old and should probably not be listening to this kind of thing according to MTV's programming at our age group, but I've had this lp passed down to me from my dad (on vinyl) and it has more energy and power than any of the so called 'bands' we're subjected to now. Every song has the unique Geno re-interpretation and it just sounds fantastic. It's soul with real guts to it, not the R.Kelly sugar coated substitute. So if you're feeling fed up with current music may I heartily recommend the purchase of this most fantastic album, it will refresh your taste buds.... |

There was also the album Live! in 1967. This was briefly made available on a CD which now fetches over £100 a copy. Junior Walker had spent many years honing his individual style during the fifties, inspired by players such as Illinois Jacquet and Earl Bostic, and playing in bands like the Jumping Jacks before being discovered by Johnny Bristol and introduced to Harvey Fuqua, the ex-Moonglow singer who was running his own label.
