The simularities between this and any record by the Eels are entierly superficial. Whilst it shares the same quirky sampling and superb production it lacks the heart and content of the Eels.

After a while all the repetetive riffs and rather shoehorned samples become irritating. Whilst I wouldn't quite go as far to say that comparing this record to the Eels is like compring chalk to cheese I would however say it's like comparing those nasty cheese sticks with Caciocavallo Podolico.

Its no good approaching this set expecting to hear anything other than what it says or if you don't like country music.
There was no such thing as Rockabilly until 1958 when it was defined by Tin Pan Alley for a Guy Mitchell song.
None of these country artists would ever have imagined that the records they made would become collectors items in the future and many never thought of themselves as other than country singers.
My friend Ginny Wright who was a star in the early 50s never thought of her self as doing rockabilly even though her singing partner Tom Tall is known for a few records defined as such.

Every so often a release appears, the effect of which is to rekindle interest in an artist who would otherwise be forgotten, and this compilation from Jasmine falls into that category. It is evident on first hearing that Lee Morse was extremely versatile and had a very wide vocal range, and the way in which she deployed her talents makes her very difficult to pigeon-hole. She could sing in almost every register, and across the whole range of emotions. Sentimental ballads (some of which she wrote herself) sound every bit as convincing as the torch songs and the more outré material.

Added to that, she absorbed many different influences; on some songs she comes close to Ukulele Ike's delivery (albeit sounding less frenetic), whilst others ... Read More:
