A brave move to set a period film against the backdrop of a very modern soundtrack, but in this case, it works, and very well too.
Fans of the movie will love this soundtrack, but it's also just a great CD, one that should be a staple of any collection. The clever reworkings of so many old hits, El Tango de Roxanne in particular, give a new flavour to the tracks and help to up the kitsch value of the movie. Although it was a huge worldwide hit, it was certainly quirkier than most of your five-star movies, and the soundtrack is exactly the same.

the moulin rouge is a wicked film, with loads and loads of great songs! they are all really good but my favourites would have to be:

el tango de roxanne!
it is a really good and absaloutly addictive! i listen to all songs all time now that all my family are annoyed by it; they probually know the words too! i would recommed it to everyone!

I was disappointed by this CD. It's just as well that it is very reasonably priced, or I would be awarding two stars. I assume that the idea is to provide a compilation of tunes ideally suited to Ballroom or Latin dancing, in versions that take into account the particular needs of dancers. Instead, we have some fairly ordinary versions of the tunes, sometimes at rather strange tempos. For example, Norah Jones' version of "Come away with me" is equally good as a waltz, and musically more satisfying than Track 7. Similarly "Smooth"; the Santana/Rob Thomas version is an excellent Cha Cha and cannot be bettered. This one won't be spending much time in the CD player.
