When I read the title, I thought; 'What a good concept, pick choice cuts from well-loved albums.' and then I saw a list of the artists involved, I was already compiling my own tracklisting. And then I saw the album and. . . Well, it's just another ragbag selection of tracks, compiled with no real care. Far from these being only album tracks, the majority would also come under the heading 'singles' and it seems to the compilers at least, all an album track has to do to qualify is beloing to an album, well that disqualifies songs like 'Whatever' by Oasis or 'Paperback Writer' by the Beatles which were stand-alone singles but let's face it, what songs don't appear on albums these days? The choices include the blindingly obvious; 'Bittersweet ... Read More:

Writer/Producer/Director and soundtrack virtuoso, Michael Mann, here presents us with a self compiled double CD of
songs and score pieces used in his films throughout his career. Like most of his film scores and soundtracks, Mann puts together
an eclectic selection, including material from the likes of Miles Davis, Del Shannon and Aretha Franklin to the dance beats of Massive Attack and House of Pain.
Naturally it makes for an interesting listen, which of course, fans of Mann and his soundtracks will certainly enjoy.
The inclusion of tracks from his TV work is a nice touch, such as the mentioned Del Shannon with the hit "Runaway" and Jan Hammer's
80's synth-heavy theme from the original "Miami Vice" series. ... Read More:

I don't normally go for "Best Ofs" or "Collections" but I felt this was an exception. The whole package is superbly produced and contains all you need for a look back at MA's history. They are a truely creative and influential band and just so different from anything else that has been.
The first disc has some old favourites, my personal ones being Unfinished Sympathy, Butterfly Caught, Teardrop and Protection.
The 2nd disc was more hit and miss for me, but I have to make a special mention for I Against I, a collaboration with Mos Def, whom I like very much as an artist in his own right. I first heard the track on an UNKLE CD (Edit Music for a Film) and was instantly gripped by it's pulsating beat.
