I love the Pogues but there's a reason most of this stuff was never released. There's a few great tracks on here but I doubt I'll listen to most of it ever again. This is certainly for fans only.

Ah, come on, three classic Pogue albums for a few quid, you can't go wrong here. You'll be playing these for years to come, unless the electricity runs out, in which case buy a generator and put 'em back on.
I'm not sure if these are remastered. I suspect not, so audiophiles might be better off buying separately, but they'll be more than good enough for most people.
The first two albums are essential for any Pogues fan. The third contains some classic tracks and also some that sound like The Spinners or almost any Irish pub-folk act at your local beer festival, but it's still worth having.

Probably worth the purchase price for the epic "The Band Played Maltzing Matilda" alone, this is a awesome recording and was maybe the highest height the Pogues ever reached.
Classic folk mixed with no-nonsense punk, the band show a youth and vigour that was never quite recaptured and McGowan is on top form with penned tracks like the sweet romantic "Pair of Brown Eyes" or the drunken riot of "Sick Bed of Cuchulainn". Add to this some traditional songs given the Pogues treatment (Navigator and Jesse James both stand out for attention) and you have the ingredients for a wonderful album.

`Rum, Sodomy and the Lash' was Winston Churchill's famous description of the British Royal Navy and somehow suits the album down to the ground. The album its self is a masterpiece and certainly The Pogues most perfect and fully realised album, perfectly portraying their fantastic live performances of this period, the height of Shane MacGowan's song writing and there most inventive reinterpretation of traditional folk music.
Of the Shane MacGowan originals the singles `Sally MacLennane' and `A Pair of Brown Eyes' were obvious choices but `The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn' `Billy's Bones' and `The Old Main Drag' are equally accomplished songs. Only the instrumental `Wild Cats of Kilkenny' smack of filler.
The choice and arrangement of the majority ... Read More:
