Brilliant! - You know why? Because this simply involves two decks, a mixer (I'm guessing the DJM600 if the much used filter effect on this CD is anything to go by) and a very talented DJ. I love this mix in its glorious entirety. What's more - it's live. On a good stereo, you can actually here the occasional record crackle! The mixing is by and large first rate - beat perfect, lengthy and in key and the programming is at times, inspired!! I still listen to this compliation an awful lot today and still play out some of the tunes on it myself - especially Schudelfloss, Twist & Shout, Same Sun Same Sky and Bullet, because they still sound so fresh & funky....

Back in `99, I bought the fabulous Hed kandi compilation CD called Serve Chilled. One of the first albums on the new Hed Kandi label, it had a great selection of chill-out tracks that introduced me to several new artists. Over the years the quality of Hed Kandi comps varied, but generally you would get your money's worth, at least until mark Doyle left in 2005.

So when I recently decided to get some new low-key background music (as my collection was looking a bit dated), I looked around to see what was hot. I opted to buy Angels Fall after seeing the very high ratings on Amazon. Should have known better.

Vulture Culture: Remastered & Expanded

If memory serves, 'Vulture Culture' fell into the LP/CD transition period, and was first issued (in 1984) in both formats. The CD, however, was strangely lacking in atmosphere in comparison with the vinyl version. For me, this remastered issue restores the clarity, brightness and atmosphere of the original album, and, in keeping with others in the reissue series, adds a lot of previously-unreleased material.

'Vulture Culture' was one of the Project's more topical albums, the title neatly reversing the contemporary 'culture vulture' tag to highlight the contemporary issue of predatory greed. The first thing to get straight is that this album is NOT a compilation of love songs. Alan Parsons Project did not actually record many love songs in their career. This compilation was obviously put together by someone who knows nothing about the band, and hasn't bothered to listen to the lyrics of the songs. For this reason, I was tempted to give this album 1 star.

HOWEVER, this album does contain an excellent collection of the Projects' slow songs. And if any fan wanted a CD that contained all the slow songs on, this is a must buy. All the songs are of course brilliant, but to like Alan Parsons Project, you need to like the albums "Eye in the Sky" and "Ammonia Avenue" - if you like these, then you are probably a fan of most of their stuff.
