This is one of the best compilations of classical music available. This is a saturated market with classical compilations being released all the time all with the same predictable songs. This album however offers a broad range of classical music recorded by some great artists. There are some tracks that one could find on many other compilations, such as Faure's Pavane, Delibes' Flower Duet and Holst's Jupiter but these are all good recordings. There are also tacks composed more recently like John Williams' theme to Schindler's List, Karl Jenkin's Adiemus and Ennio Morricone's Chi Mai.

I remember reading a brief article about Wild in The Sun about a year ago - it was basically saying that you should listen to them because they're 5 fit women who play music (which is true). So, me being me, I though nothing of it. Now, considering that at the start of the year I was coming towards the end of a heavy metal phase (I'm very open-minded when it comes to music, I listen to absolutely anything) classical music had only just started to interest me - I always saw it as something that your parents listened to. Jochum was a prominent advocate of Bruckner, and whether or not there are other available versions of this sacred music I imagine he and his Berlin choir and orchestra will be the first port of call both for committed Brucknerians and for the rest of us. 7 of the 15 pieces here were recorded between 1966 and 1971. The dates of the others, including the final Psalm 150 in which the recording shows a few signs of strain, we are not told.

I found this a fascinating selection. The Te Deum is, I suppose, fairly familiar, the remaining pieces may be familiar to some. If you have good enough French, I recommend strongly reading the original text of the liner-note in that language. What startled me sufficiently to read it for myself was the statement ...
