Rob Garza and Eric Hilton dig into their music collection (a rather eclectic one, apparently), and throw together 20 tracks for "The Outernational Sound," a gumbo pot of mellowed out grooves that will satisfy any set of tastebuds. The range of textures and moods runs all over the globe, from Indian influences ("Mathar" by Indian Vibes), old-school American funk (Major Force's "Re-return of the Original Artform"), Latin grooves ("Simbarere" by Antonio Carlos Jocafi), as well as chilled cafe lounge, African rhythms, and a dash of Asian influences. There's also an interesting cover of the Beatles' "Within You Without You" by the Alan Lorber Orchestra, the jazzy "Play it Cool," and Block 16's "Slow Hot Wind." TC wouldn't do a compilation of this ... Read More:

This is a must-have for any Nickelback fans who have been disappointed with their latest 'All the Right Reasons' but love the other stuff. It takes the band back to their roots and uncovers a different side of their musical abilities.
I bought this album having already owned Silver Side Up and Long Road for a while. It surprised me at first - it is hugely different to anything else they've done, with a raw, grungey sound and vocals that sound like Chad didn't really know what he was doing. The songs seemed rather disjointed and improvised at first, but after a few listens I saw the intricate quality of the album. The songs show great originality and passion, and certain numbers grow on you fast, especially ones like ... Read More:

After waiting 6 months to get my hands on this, I can only say it was worth the wait. The album is fast-paced from the outset and very rarely lets up. 'Party 7' is probably the stand-out track, although it was desperately hard to choose from such a stylish collection. Overall, a shockingly good debut album, with groove aplenty. Well worth it.
