Well im not going to go on about Bobs credentials - your all here because you know who he is, and what he brings to mine and your music collection...
The new album is, i feel, a bit of a compromise/trial on the content of Bobs more modern works tied in with some of his old loves. Yes there are the ever so catchy guiter riffs, harmonies, long powerfull vocals that get you screaming along in your car (well i do anyways) and some new electronic bits and bobs (pun intended)...but these dont dominate like they did in 'Modulate'. They work into the songs as more of an accompanyment and they work very well i feel. Seems as though two paths are meeting here and seeing how they get on together and its good to see and great to listen to.

Back to some sort of old form. It's growing on me despite earlier resistance. But why the heck does he insist on using that horrible electronic voice treatment vocoder thingy that was used more (in)famously by Cher? I almost threw the CD out of my car window in despair at some stages.

Bob's always going to suffer at my hands because I expect a barnstormer like 'Poison Years' every time, and end up being disappointed. A bit like sleeping with an old flame; you pretend to yourself that you're enjoying it, but end up with tinges of regret.

In saying that, Bob's guitar stuff is always gonna be a million miles higher than anyone else. Even God sometimes puts his pants on back to front.

This CD was a real departure for Michael W. Smith. Released right after his i2(eye) CD, it was a complete style change - from 80's pop/rock to a choral sound. I must admit at first I was really disappointed, but the CD has grown on me until it's become one of my favorites.

This CD sounds more like a choral album then an artist driven solo project. In fact, Michael doesn't even have all the solos. The music is full orchestra for a Christmas pageant feel. There are very few traditional carols on here, except in instrumental form. As a result, it takes several listens before it sounds remotely Christmassy. However, there are some powerful lyrics in the new songs that remind me of the wonder of the first Christmas. And "Gloria" is a fun rendition ... Read More:
