I used to love Soul music in the 60's & 70's but lost the faith as the R&B monsters took over - I know I'm being simplistic but I can't think of an R&B album I've bought in the last 10 years which holds up on repeated listening.
So when I heard this compilation I was delighted to find there are still artists out there producing great soul music, I'm sure I'll be buying half a dozen albums after to listening to this.
My congratulations and thanks to expansion records for bringing me back..

Michael Woody and Dyann Brown were both popular singers in their Colorado college days but although they knew each other, they did not sing together, nor did any relationship develop between them at the time. After college, Michael went to Nashville while Dyann headed for Los Angeles. Michael had some success as a songwriter, notably providing the Desert rose band with a number one country hit, He's back and I'm blue, but also having songs recorded by Barbara Mandrell, Steve Earle, Clay Walker, David Lee Murphey and others. Eventually, Dyann was advised to go to Nashville and did so in 1993. She met up with Michael again - this time things were different and they married later that year.

This is one of my favourite Pink Floyd albums, still sounding as good as it did in the long summer of 1970 when it was released. It captures the positive and experimental aspects of the sixties Floyd before they found fame and fortune with Dark Side Of The Moon and became increasingly gloomy and angst driven. The first track is their longest single suite with added brass, cello and choir orchestrated by Ron Geesin. This is followed by three songs, 'If' is an acoustic number by Waters,'Summer 68' is a funky tune by Wright and 'Fat Old Sun' has a great guitar solo at the end by Gilmour. The album finishes with a long soundscape full of Floydian sound effects in 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' which makes for ideal listening on headphones with cereals ... Read More:

Appearing after the sprawling, unfocused double-album set Ummagumma, Atom Heart may boast more focus, even a concept, yet that doesn't mean it's more accessible. If anything, this is the most impenetrable album they released while on Harvest, which also makes it one of the most interesting of the era. Still, it may be an acquired taste even for fans, especially since it kicks off with a side-long, 23-minute extended orchestral piece that may not seem to head anywhere, but is often intriguing, more in what it suggests than what it achieves.
