From the label that brought you the excellent Disco Not Disco and Funky Nassau compilations,(STRUT) the latest one see's them tackling Kid Creole and in particular The August Darnell Years between 1974 and 1983. It opens with Sunshower my particular favourite and it's a sublime slice of disco funk.
It's also interesting to note just how many of the songs here have been sampled over the last two decades to create a new range of dance hits, from hip hop to house.
The best things about this compilation are...
1. That Kid Creole has impeccable taste in music
2. Because the CD is unmixed it's a great tool for DJ's
3. It is programmed in such a way that its superb for home listeners too.

For value Id give this title 5 out of 5.Its a 3cd set ,with cds 1 and 2 being made up of all the old favourites like borstal breakout , hersham boys etc.The third cd is live with renditions of ulster , and i dont wanna etc.Personally I prefer the studio versions and I still drool over my bros vinyl single of ulster and i dont wanna , also with red london (why isnt that included in this complete collection?)on the original step forward label.
All in all its a very good buy ,but i would have liked to see the studio versions of ulster and i dont wanna ...rather than the live versions (pretty vacant is...pretty bad) and also red london which has been omitted completly.

I've been a fan of Billy's since I saw him play in the mid 80's. Probably my favourite albums are The Nylon Curtain, Streetlife Serenade & Songs In The Attic.
On this particular album, Los Angelenos, The Great Suburban Showdown, Streetlife Seranader & Roberta- plus the rest obviously!- in particular kill me! How I dream of writing Los Angelenos, criminally under rated by fans who dont undertsand the man as an artist.
This is similar in vein to The Nylon Curtain in that it is angry.
The Entertainer is my least liked track on this release, in that I can tell this was record company pressure- he kind of turned it around though with the songs' bitter irony winning the day. Also the songs cheesy keyboard solo sounds purposely ... Read More:
