The Selecter tired of playing second fiddle to The Specials on the Two-Tone label and signed directly to the distributer, Chrysalis, shortly after promoting the `Missing Words' 45 from debut long player `Too Much Pressure'. The first single for their new label was `The Whisper' b/w `Train to Skaville' and it was the brightest and best 45 they had recorded however without the patronage of Walt Jabsco's imprint it failed to make much of an impact in the charts leading to the bassist and organist quitting the band. This their second LP was started with initial bass duties being taken by Norman Watt-Roy, from Ian Dury's backing band The Blockheads.

No, John Reed was not camp. He lacked the talent to aspire so high. He was no more than a clown, and a pretty limited one at that. Amazon currently carries both the previous production from the 1950s and the still earlier one from the 1930s. Martyn Green and George Baker, fine comic performers both, simply blow Reed's leaky little boat out of the water.
As for the missing dialogue, have those who are complaining actually listened to the sets infested by the spoken words? They are appalling! Rather than suffer through any one of them again, I would set about presenting my visiting card on Tuesday or Friday to view Katisha's right elbow.
By the way, why has no one taken umbrage at the fact that poor 'Cox and Box' is presented in that infamously ... Read More:

While not all your favourite G&S tunes have been captured here, this double CD collection certainly represents a fine selection of the duo's best ditties taken from their D'Oyly Carte repertoire and therefore good value for money. The performances are goodish, with one or two slightly below par.
This high quality production of songs recorded between 1961 and 73 emphasises clear vocal enunciation to allow the listener to enjoy Gilbert's witty libretto, slightly at the expense of the slightly muted orchestral sound. Still, credit to Decca for this release, which may help to restore their reputation and open the world of opera bouffe to a new generation.

Sinch is a rather stunning affair. Most bands only dream of being this orignal. It's impossible to put "Sinch" into a genre, while carrying a slight grunge edge from former days Sinch always seemed a step ahead and they're resent release is no exception. "Sinch" shows an heavier edge than previous releases but also contains a more Complex side. While Jamie stem (vocals) has politcal issues and lyrics written in some songs he doesn't try to shove them down you throat Constantly (like some other bands S.O.A.D perhaps) and he doesn't moan about injustice either which is a welcome relief. Tony (Guitars) shows his ability throughtout the album with the stunning opening riff for "To die in fall" and his keen electronics skill throughout the album but Particularly in the beautiful ... I came across Res when I went to see Mary J Blige in concert a few years ago. Not knowing what to expect, I was actually very surprised how good she was! So after hearing some of her songs performed, I then went out and bought "How I Do"....and was SO glad I did!
Each song screams with originality and depth - something a lot of artists these days struggle with. From the beginning with "Golden Boy" to the end with "Toxic You" (and hidden track "Say It Anyway"), this album just brims with energy and feeling.
Res has a very distinctive and emotive voice. Which changes depending on the song she is singing - often more rocky tracks have a more gravelly texture to her voice, whilst the delicate side is highlighted in "Tsunami", "Let Love" and "Ice King".

Res has the kind of voice that draws you into a song and carries you along the american black vibe to the end before you realise you're grooving to the tune. With Lauryn Hill vocals and a more upbeat tempo these tunes are perfect for lazy sunday afternoons with friends gently gyrating by the BBQ. Hopefully this isn't the last we'll see of this great emerging new voice...
