I can't believe the reviewer (Debbie) who says she didn't know most of these tracks! If she was there in the 1980s, she must have had ear plugs in and a paper bag over her head! This album is a great compilation at a bargain price - fantastic for listening to in the car, or quizzing your mates (who was that?), or demonstrating your vast knowledge of 1980s pop trivia. For the discerning listener, this series of albums prompts wider research into some of these artists - the excellent Blancmange, for example, and whatever happened to Kon Kan?
At less than £1 per disc, this is amazing value. For those who weren't there it provides a pretty good overview of what was happening in that decade.

Extended 80's Mixes

A quite bizarre mix of tunes from the decade. It's hard to see which part of the eighties or which genre this is supposed to reflect. If it's meant simply to be a demonstration of how eclectic the decade was, then the selection should have been broader. If it's meant to show how good some of the music was, why is Black Box here? The first six tracks make sense but the rest appear to be a hurried afterthought of what 80s tracks the label could remember and get their hands on quickly.

It seems they're just after some easy cash. And the title held such promise. Oh dear. But then, perhaps this is what the eighties were about...

Me Without You

The film 'Me Without You' has flaws- the main one being that it should have been designed for TV rather than cinematic release. But one great thing about it is its soundtrack- better than the one for '24 Hour Party People' and set (roughly)over the same time period.

There are some tragic omissions from the film's soundtrack- such as the Cowboy Junkies track or 'Nag Nag Nag' by Cabaret Voltaire. But this soundtrack does represent what's heard in the film pretty well.

There are nasty AOR tracks- perfectly suited to suburbia and proof of kitsch aspirations in suburbia in the 70's (think of 'Abigail's Party'). Songs like 'January-February', 'I've Never Been to Me' and 'White Horses'. But these contrast well with the other songs ... Read More:
