I can't think of anything missing from the days of Ben Shermans, braces, tonic trousers, Crombies and Doc Martens. A few I havn't heard for nearly 40 years! With so many tracks there has to be a few that are not going to be to your taste. Some of the cover versions are a bit naff, although I found a few good, new to me, tracks that more than make up for them. So 'Tighten Up' all you old (original) skinheads and lovers of original Jamacian reggae buy this one, and any new to old fashioned reggae, even Amy Winehouse recorded Money Man. You will not be let down by this fine collection. |

This Is ModSearch: Skinhead Moonstomp - Symarip by: Various Artists Release Date February 26, 2008 This is a mid-price collection of a few genuine mod classics, but mostly made up of mod's covering the sounds that they were listening to. Sounds a bit confusing, but essentially mod music was 60's soul/rhythm and blues and also reggae/ska sounds from Jamaica. Little Piece of Leather (although this version sounds different from the one on the UK Sue cd, it doesn't sound like a complete re-recording) and slow fizz are original tracks from the US that can be considered genuine mod songs. There are also some original Reggae/Ska songs such as Housewives Choice, skinhead moonstop, train to skaville which are also true Mod classics. Obviously aimed squarely at my post forty demographic, who witnessed the emergence of two tone and the ska revival that followed. It could have dropped the fishbone track and the buster bloody blood vessels special brew in favour of say The Maytals "Pressure Drop", The Pioneers "Time Hard" and "Long shot kick de bucket". These are only minor quibbles. Go on, buy it. |
