Arriving at a time when American popular music was taking on folk and country influences Evelyn Knight has been well served with CDs-2 of them which only repeat about 6 songs.
You can hear at times Bonnie Lou-who was a genuine country singer-and a lot of Dinah Shore-who also did a few folk songs.
Buttons & Bows was common to both though its always associated with Dinah Shore.
Dance with a Dolly had just been recorded by Bill Haley & the Saddlemen-who would go onto the Comets and Worldwide fame.
I remember the cornfields-possibly her greatest song-and My Grandfather's Clock-made previously by Frank Crumit.
How could anyone give her less than 5 stars?

Deface the Music is a bizzare album. After the crazy jazz-prog masterpiece 'Todd Rundgren's Utopia' who'd have thought that the band would make a studio album that sounds just like The Beatles? It's not just a passing reseblance either. Rundgren actually revered those Liverpudlian superheroes and set out deliberately to make a beatlesesque album. Weird. Once you get your head around what it is, you realise it's actually really good - totally throwaway, upbeat feelgood nonsense that for some reason sounds better than the real thing. Rundgren's voice is really suited to pop songs, and his characteristic production brings a warm, delightfully flawed sound to this type of music. I don't really understand why it exists, but I'm glad it does.
