. Catalani: La WallySearch: Some Girls from: Decca Release Date November 23, 1989 Mestro Cleva has chosen the well tried formula of Tebaldi-Del Monaco. Although Tebaldi is past her prime, less powerful, with a much darker voice she still offers enough beautiful moments like her version of the famous "Ebben..ne andro a lontana". What a pity though that she didn't record this signature role earlier in studio (there is an excellent live recording). Mario del Monaco is the main flaw of this set. He shows a lot of signs of wear especially on the lower register. He was, after all, older than 50 when he recorded the role. Last but certainly not least Capuccili performs ideally! Recommended listening, though not flawless. |

I can imagine this in a club, it makes you nod your head and think 'tune'. I wouldnt really call this minimal and it reminds me of Ritchie Hawtin mixes of old, but brought up to date. The most clubby of the at the controls so far and the least experimental but this is a near on perfect mix of techno thats good at home or in the car. Disk 2 is in the same vein and tempo but is a bit more mellow and ploddy , still it sounds good on a sunday night or for chillin but you wouldnt play it before going out clubbing. Overall a quality techno mix and if you like MANDY and JAMES HOLDEN you will almost definately like this.The best 'at the controls' so far. |
