Live in Boston: Boston Arena 10 Apr 1970

Search: St. James Infirmary Blues
by: Doors

Release Date August 06, 2007

This 3-CD set of previously unreleased material (save for two tracks) includes both of the performances that the Doors gave in Boston on April 10, 1970. These live recordings were among many captured on tape for the "Absolutely Live" double LP (released in September 1970.) It is a well-known fact that these recordings were made in an era that saw Morrison's life becoming increasingly dissolute. It was also a time when the Lizard King seemed to retain only a small modicum of interest in rock music.

The original "Absolutely Live" album showed Jim Morrison not taking the songs very seriously, as he uttered quite a few flippant asides. The extended renditions of tunes like "Soul Kitchen", "Break on Through" and the like were ... Read More:

More Lost Treasures of Ted Heath

Search: St. James Infirmary Blues
by: Ted Heath

Release Date June 30, 2003
Many of the tracks on this collection (non commercial private recordings and transcriptions) can also be found on the re-issues on the Vocalion label of the commercial recordings, only the sound quality (balance / tape hiss) on the Vocalions is much, much better.
Furthermore, the liner notes are very disappointing, the are no recording dates, no personel; there is however a photo of the band. Funnily it dates from the late Forties, so there is only scant relation with the band that can be heard on these discs. A missed chance.
He (or she) who wants an introduction to the wonderful world of Ted Heath should refrain from purchasing this collection; instead look for some of the four or five star rated Vocalions.
