. 101 Rock N Roll HitsSearch: Stay - Maurice Williams by: Various Artists Release Date June 02, 2008 I cannot describe just how much I have enjoyed this collection, and I highly recommend it. As a child I spent many happy hours stacking up my parents' late 50s and early 60s singles onto a real record player (not a tarty modern 'turntable'), and for ages I searched for a CD compilation that not only included the tracks I remembered, but also captured the musical spirit of the times. Although I had not heard of many of the 101 tracks on this album before buying it, I now listen to all of it constantly. I defy anyone to get bored of this, covering as it does a great variety of different musical styles from the mid 50s to the early 60s. Even Cliff Richard is great! Rock'n'Roll Love SongsSearch: Stay - Maurice Williams by: Various Artists Release Date January 26, 2004 Almost all of the tracks on this set are not original recordings, so if this matters to you then steer well clear. Although re-recordings such as that by Billy Fury are well done, others like the Shirelles, have instrumental backing added which detract from the pristine bite of the originals. Some of the other standard items such as Fats Domino are recorded at live venues, so this is another consideration. Its a well recorded collection if you just want these titles, but if you want the originals then look elsewhere. For the flavour of original rock and roll try the American Graffiti sound track double album or the Best of Doo Wop collection. |

. Rock 'n' Roll Dance Party Vol.2Search: Stay - Maurice Williams by: Various Artists Release Date May 10, 2004 Only a few original tracks on this CD (and some of them of dubious quality). Most of the tracks are re-recordings so this CD is best avoided. It's a pity that Amazon does not make clear which Cd's contain re-recorded material. Sometimes the low price is a guide, but not always. I also bought some Roots of Rock N Roll cd's for the same price and they contain original material with good quality sound. |

They are by the original artist or at least one member of the original group but re-recorded up to 40 years later. This information is in the small print on the CD but unfortunatly it's not on the Amazon site which I think it should be. |
