. Back on the TrainSearch: Strangers by: Electric Bluebirds Release Date September 23, 1996 The Electric Bluebirds were a well known pub band in London in the early 80s. Bizarrely, they ended up adopting a Cajun style, and a unique most un-London swirling accordian / fiddle mix. They released an eponymously titled album in 85 or so, which sank without trace partly because the band had effectively already split, partly because it got no airplay but mainly because the record company went bust. I bought it at the time and played it to death - it was quite brilliant. Everyone who heard promptly ran off to try and find a copy (which was not easy). This album where he puts down musical impressions of a trip through America is one his best. A glorious mix of that distinctive Chapman guitar (electric and acoustic) given space to breathe, brooding precussion and rich atmosphere. Lose yourselves in the foot tapping brilliance of A strangers map of texas, or the deeply evocotive Swamp. If Cds were sold on quality rather than on spin and image then Americana would be on every highstreet and high in the charts. |

Guitar PlayerSearch: Strangers by: Hank Marvin Release Date April 08, 2002 Have been a fan since the begining of the 1960's and have seen Hank in concert with Cliff and also as HANK with his band a few times and have his cd's. This cd is refreshing as it's played nearly all on acoustic guitar and shows just what a fine guitarist Hank is together with his band, I won't go through the tracks because most others have in their review. But I still miss the red/pink fender strat sound, and yes know it is a acoustic cd, but SORRY I do miss the reverb / echo and twangy sound which is unique to Hank. I hope this cd does not end up like one of those cd's you buy listen to a few times, and then gathers dust in the cd rack.
