Offically the first solo Lp by Pink Floyds Roger Walters, but unofically most fans recognise that its really his second, as the Final Cut was more or less his first as the other 3 members had little or no imput.
A great listen on headphones or pumped up loud on the stereo. also check out 1987's Radio K.A.O.S and 1992's Amused to Death.

Initially only released in Australia as a promo for RWs tour at that time, Flickering Flame burns brightest with track 8 'Each small candle' (from 'in the flesh live', 2000). Set in Kosovo, the song is about a Serbian soldier breaking ranks to help an Albanian 'babushka' grandmother. Musically its beautiful and lyrically very strong.
'Towers of faith' from the 1986 film 'when the wind blows' and 'flickering flame' are also good. The rest of the album is a bit hit and miss with tracks from 'Amused to death', 'Radio Kaos', 'Pros and Cons' and a couple more film tracks. Strange mix, as although the 'amused to death' tracks are good, perhaps the best from this amazing album (with the fantastic Jeff Beck) are not featured... plus the ... Read More:

...little new to offer Waters and Floyd fans. It's *great* to have "Knocking on Heaven's Door" and the demo tracks, and the material is all sequenced very nicely, with some new and subtle segues.
But, knowing that most of the people buying this will already own Waters' other albums, it would have been nice if 1) the version of "Each Small Candle" were a *studio* recording rather than the live version found on *In the Flesh*, and 2) the tracks were freshly mastered (i.e. remastered) for this release.
No mastering credit is given, and the lower peak levels and samey sound quality suggest that Waters and producer James Guthrie merely loaded all the songs into a workstation right off the CDs and resequenced them ... Read More:

without doubt this is the best "best of" available that covers the boys at the height of the NWOBHM. Thoroughly covers the EMI years, and let's be honest, who cares about the dreaded late 80's and most of the 90's, when they went European. They couldn't get arrested here. This 3 cd package highlights the obvious singles and best known album tracks, plus a few album fillers. All in all this is a great place to start for you youngsters who missed them 30 years ago, and even better for us old farts who have been dragged kicking and screaming into the light of the 21st century and have had to replace our vinyl and tapes. Great to see that Saxon are still a major player in the heritage metal arena, and are recapturing the heady heights of the tracks herein. Go buy, ... Read More:
