Cat Stevens's second album of sub three-minute pop songs is one of his worst. Right through, he has a spring in his step and the backing of colourful orchestral arrangements, but the songs are largely unmemorable. The one famous track is 'The First Cut Is The Deepest,' which has twice been subjected to a hit cover version, and stands out here. 'Lovely City' is very impressive too, as is 'Kitty,' but the rest is generally short on musical inspiration.

The last five songs come from 1968 and 1969, the period after he'd been diagnosed with TB, and these come across with defiance. 'Matthew And Son' has the better songs, but after this Stevens changed tack and became more serious. Slightly nearer two stars than four.

As I could not wait the UK release of this album, I bought this Buddha Bar X through Amazon.fr (18 February 2008 release). I've been a big fan of the Buddha Bar series, and at every new album release I'm half excited and half anxious because I'm afraid that someday they will disappoint me. Every previous album was a delightful surprise. I don't know how they do it, but it just never fails to come up to my expectations, they keep on producing such pleasant (often CD1) and exciting (mostly CD2) music. And yes, THEY DID IT AGAIN with the Buddha Bar X!!! This music always touches the right spot of your heart, takes your mind away to a place where you feel so peaceful. I'm already thrilled how the XI will turn out... But until then, I have ten boxes ... Read More:

Though randomly delayed and contained in some extremely difficult packaging in the fold out shape of a late seventies arcade game, this gem of a remix album is finally here featuring collaborations from many different labels among them Domino, Lex, and Wichita. The narration from supposed executive producer and album savior Kurt Stern gives Phantom Phorce an Ogden's Nut Gone Flake, childhood storytelling quality bringing the various mixes together and greatly enhancing the playfulness and fun of the album. Most of the political messages of the original have been lost but it is more adventurous musically. What a stomping CD, overall there are some brilliant tracks here. The quality of song craft is exceptional, the vocal performance really builds it will surprise you. The musicianship is also really nice, these people know their craft. Cats like Beyonce must just listen and weep, this is for real.
