This set represents a creditably even handed, 43 track sweep through five decades of chart toppers. The album does itself a favour by missing out any chart toppers from the last ten years that typify the 'straight-in-at-number-one with a fan base push then a plummet of 22 places on week two' pattern - caused by declining sales in the singles market. These are, at least, proper number ones in the traditional sense. Since the 1960's, when almost every Beatles single was an automatic chart topper, the best records by the greatest artists have rarely been number ones. With that fact in mind, you'd have to conclude that this album does largely represent the best that number one singles have had to offer; there's 'Good Vibrations',' Reach Out',' Maggie ... This set does not, despite the title, include the complete studio recordings. However, every studio track previously released is here. There are even about three exclusive tracks (or rather alternative versions of existing songs) not available anywhere else. To get the rest, you'd probably have to separately buy double the number of CD's included here, such is the rarity of some of the tracks. For instance, "I Am The City" was only previously included on "More Abba Gold" which has now been deleted.
The only things you won't find in this set are the live recordings, however a new live CD is allegedly in the pipeline which will hopefully take care of these. Only two or three live recordings are currently available on CD elsewhere. ... Read More:

I've wanted this CD just off the strength of The Dells' "It's All Up to You", which is the most gorgeous song I've ever heard. Typically, this compilation is unavailable in the States, and I can't buy it off of UK iTunes (where I got to hear a sample of each song), so I'm just going to have to buy it here. As a Yank who loves her Northern Soul, I gotta say that the British are first class when it comes to championing and cherishing good music.

I came across this simply because I like weird cover records and artists - Senopr Coconut, Me First & The Gimme Gimme's, Pat Boone's 'In a Metal Mood', Richard Cheese, Hayseed Dixie, Dread Zeppelin - all genius. Unfortunately, Black Sweden just aren't in the company of such dangerously brilliant minds. Yes, the ABBA songs sound good rocked up (but not as good as, say, The Wondermints version of 'Knowing Me, Knowing You') but the rock stylings are a little too bad hair metal (think all those B-list 80's metal bands that make you cringe rather than the ones you like to remember). They just lack the inventiveness of those other mentioned artists. Each track starts with a classic rock/metal riff but then just forgets about it as it moves off into ... Read More:

this is truly amazing! congratulations must go to the people responsible for this. it is the most unimaginitive and rotund blend of...well...you may aswell have compiled the selected field recordings of horses farting on the camargue. it's just as useful.
it's the sonic equivalent of eating sand. if it was any more bland it would probably be a recording of someone eating sand. actually no that would atleast be interesting for a few minutes.
the next step must surely be :
CH-ILL OUT MUSIC - music to listen to while your getting better. a selection of timeless ... Read More:

This is not actually performed by Abba - CD1 is a tribute band, CD2 is orchestral versions of some songs, and CD3 is Karaoke (by the tribute band, I believe). Beware...
