Search: Take Me In Your Arms And Love Me - Gladys Knight
by: Various Artists
Release Date March 01, 2004
OK, this is a good collection of songs from the album's subject but c'mon, no Cilla Black!
Cilla had two no.1 hits in the 60s as well as 8 more top ten smashes. Why, does it seem that Cilla has been airbrushed out of 60s music, her voice really was one of a kind.
This mayor release could have introduced more people to Cilla's music but all it is an insult to her musical legacy where so many one hit wonders have their songs included here, there is no Cilla recording to be found.

There are literally dozens of different Motown complations to choose from and sometimes picking one could seem quite bewildering. The other difficulty these days is actually to come up with a way of compliling them which is both original and likely to entice. Jon Savage has taken a rather unique approach to selecting his tracks for "Shadows Of Love" focusing the attention on the darker side of the lyrics to songs all taken from what many would consider the real golden age of Motown.
The premise itself does at first strike you as a little pretentious although it does focus one on the content of the lyrics themselves which reveals how dark some of the songs really are. Savage's notes rarely stray into pretention but reveal his knowledge ... Read More:

This album kicks off with a really catchy upbeat song which I find great for getting in the mood to go out (makes me feel like one of the no angels girls!), and there are about 6 other really upbeat songs like the 1st, then the rest are more slow tunes but still great to listen to - assuming you like motown! There's a great selection here, fans of the music on the show won't be disappointed, this album is easily as good as the 1st album.

A couple of decades before the 'Now' series started, even years before all those 'K-Tel' and 'Ronco' albums, Tamla Motown in Britain were trotting out their finest on compilations.
This one released in autumn 1967, catalogues the patchy but growing popularity of the Motown sound in Britain in 1966/7. It may have seemed folly to put so many hits on one album, but they were looking to raise their profile and to consolidate on their recent successes.
Let me take it back a little further. Tamla Motown's first album in Britain, released in spring 1965 was '16 Big Hits'. That series continued for the rest of the 60s, reaching Volume 8. They continued in conjunction with the Chartbusters, featuring betwixt and between hits, and ... Read More:

If you are, like me, old enough to remember when these numbers first came out - or at least covers by the likes of the Beatles (Money and Please Mr Postman) to the Who (Heatwave) via The Spencer Davis group(Every Little Bit Hurts) - then this compilation is a must, even though you'll probably have many or most of the tracks on other CDs and compilations.

Brought up listening to my Dad playing this music I developed a very strong taste for Motown. This album is awesome. There are so many old classics and a few unknown but really good tunes to be found. The mix is perfect and I really enjoy listening to this album. A must buy for fans of motown, R&B and soul.
