This is a magic album. I am a bit of a fan of Dengue Fever and this is their best album. Sung in Khmer the music takes you to Indochina although the beat is familiar to western audience. This combines the best of two cultures. It could have gone so wrong trying the impossible but it doesn't. I must add that the lead singer has an amazing voice. And of course the green vinyl adds a touch of Asian kitsch. Please make a stop in Stockholm on your next tour!

Dengue Fever are a group of eclectic LA hipsters fronted by a bona fide Cambodian pop star (Chhom Nimol), who make a heady brew informed by retro spy-movie soundtracks, psychedelia, lounge jazz and rock and roll. Apparently influenced by organist Ethan Holtzman's trips to Cambodia in 1997 when a unique local 60s-era rock was still prevalent, the band's sound is fleshed out with wide ranging influences from Ethiopian jazz, surf, and garage rock. Nimol's sings mostly in Khmer, giving it distinct Eastern melodies, while the sonic landscape is a mish-mash of retro stylings that would make it ideal for a Quentin Tarrantino or Jim Jarmusch soundtrack. In fact, if you like this you would do well to pick up the latter's Broken Flowers OST, which features ... Read More:

To be honest cd2 of this compilation is the only one i really to listen too, theres a few scattered bangers on the other 2 cds but way to much filler! Also what is hype doing with the delay effect on his mixer? He needs to sort that out big style because its ruined many of the tracks for example dillinja's in the grind - i cringe every time I hear it! There are though, on the other hand some excellent bits of mixing, like when he brings in tink ya bad from now its over - SIK! If you can find it for under a tenner than get it but otherwise sorry dj hype, must try harder
