As an achievement, the third boxset from Dayton, Ohia's Guided By Voices is simply outstanding.
The Best of disc is what a best of disc should be: crammed full of singles (which should have been hits, none of which were), live favourites and great album tracks. No surprises there, but the real gems are in the collection of b-sides. There are more great songs on here than most bands manage on their whole album, from the mini-epics like "(I'll name you) the flame that cries" to criminally underrated 60's influnced pop songs like "Dodging Invisible Rays".
The live disc is also essential, spanning numerous line-ups of the band.
The DVD, Watch Me Jumpstart, offers a valuable insight into the band, and includes some great live ... Read More:

it must've been about four or five years ago when i first got this album. i recognised the opening track from the buffy the vampire slayer soundtrack. however, i was disappointed when i listened to it. the songs were too short, nondescript, and what the hell is that guy talking about? so i stuffed it on a shelf after listening to it twice and never thought of it again.
