by: Neil Diamond
Release Date April 08, 2002
It may be argued that Neil Diamond has not been himself for some years now. If you don't believe me listen to these three discs (comprising all 6 of his earliest MCA studio albums) and you will be convinced of Mr Diamond's sparkling beginings. Skip the derisible "The Pot Smoker's Song" and the hokey "Knackelflerg" on Disc 1, and you are left with 69 tracks of sheer excellence. Apart from some of the classics, that all Diamond fans know and love, there are some lesser known gems - "Juliet" is a lovely, well paced love song as is "Hurtin' You Don't Come Easy" Disc 2 contains the wonderful "African Trilogy" a full sweeping mini rock opera that shows just how brave and experimental Diamond once was (and to be fair, still is in his live performances).
