Howe Gelb has continued his weirdness with this album. Titled after childrens' classics but done in the style of many well known artists such as Goldfrapp, Black Sabbath & Nick Cave. The Pictures At An Exhibition cover certainly knocks spots off the ELP version and Howe tinkling away at the piano on Moonlight Sonata is inspired!
Buy this album from Amazon and you could be in for a treat (or a disappointment - depending on what you are expecting!)

Puccini: Madam Butterfly [English Language]

Search: The Flower Duet
from: Chandos

Release Date October 15, 2001
This English rendition of Puccini's Madame Butterfly had my rather skeptical at first. I decided on getting it for two reasons: my friend couldn't handle the original Italian and I was curious. I listened to it and there were many good things about it: Not too much was lost in the translation (i.e. in the duet at the end of Act I instead of "the night is serene" this one says " the starlight is shining"), the voices sound like it was in a studio instead of an opera house so it sounds slightly distant. Also a slight irk of mine is that the Pinkerton sounds a little too English for my tastes but that's just me.
