Other reviews will tell you of the close links (well documented with this double disc) of the light music pieces on this splendid compilation with famous radio and television shows of the (our? certainly my)past. What they don't mention is that a lot of these recordings have simply not been available to the public, but came from music publishers catalogues and CDs (the Bosworth discs are good).
The source material is superb here, the quality fantastic...
These are discs to be sought and savoured.

They truly do not compose or perform music like this any more.

Living Era has produced two capital city compilations already ("New York, New York" - CD AJA 5441, and "Ca C'est Paris" - CD AJA 5285), and now features our own in this 2-CD set. It contains 51 tracks spanning the period from 1916 to 1953 and encompassing music hall, variety, light classics, and dance bands. Despite the age and disparity of the source material, sound quality is excellent and presentation is up to Living Era's usual high standard. A capital reissue in every sense.

This is even better than its predecessor. There's more confidence in the playing and the programme is especially well chosen, with its emphasis on I-never-knew-it-was-called-that tunes. Fans of the Archers will be pleased to hear its signature tune in its entirety. The whole programme is top-drawer but unexpectedly my special favourite is Finck's In the Shadows--I'd heard it before but this time the tune really got into my blood. Good to see this series continuing.

Fans of the Archers will be pleased to hear its signature tune in its entirety. The whole programme is top-drawer but unexpectedly my special favourite is Finck's In the Shadows--I'd heard it before but this time the tune really got into my blood.
