I would tend to agree with the other more critical review of this compilation, am just giving it another listen through since I got it way back at the beginning of the year. The first cd is really the only one with any sense of direction, with some nice foot tapping ebbs and flows. The second cd is a perfect cd after a night out with some nice classics, but a little too slow for my liking, the third is more of the same, and dare I say it, verging on tedium.
Unfortunately with it being a big label release, most of the tracks ( on the first cd in particular) feel a bit dated. Right then I am not going to beat about the bush hear I am going to get straight to the point & say that the alive renaissance mix by james z was the worse renaissance mix that I have ever heard. In fact I had to keep checking the cd cover to make sure it was renaissance becouse very rearly do they let me down, there was to much stoping & starting & far to many annoying technical noises for my likeing. I'm sorry but I got more enjoyment listning to my mothers shakeing stevens cd's then I did this one!

From a personal perspective, a good DJ should have the basis of his appeal firmly rooted in the choice of music he plays, his range and how he allows one track to relate to another.

In this day and age when many DJs are more likely to try to impress with technical ability, as oppossed to their skill in selecting music, it is a breath of fresh air to come across an album such as this that has the emphisis very much on the music.

The legendary loft parties that were held in David Mancuso's New York apartment, first in the late sixties, and concluding some thirty years later in 1998, were a melting pot and gathering place for some of the city's most innovative pioneers of the New York club scene over this period. I've not written a review on here before but I felt this album deserved one. i bought it on vinal when it came out and have listened to it consistently since to the point where the vinal is getting extremely worn, hence looking here to replace it :-)

Trance often brings connotations of cheese with it these days. However, this album couldn't contain less cheddar. Alot of the tracks on here were ahead of their time and still sound fresh and listenable now and some have gone on to become underground classics (FSOL - Papua New Guinea, Underworld - Rez for example).
Probably my favourite track is the now ubiquitous Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar. This version of the track was around years before it became the hit it is now and for me this version ... Read More:
