Recommended by friends this 4 CD set has a range of songs that include nursery rhymes, classic 'novelty' songs (eg 'Grandad' by Clive Dunn), sleep-inducing classical, and a rather 'new-age' set that inspires sleep in the recalcitrant infant.
At the moment I play the classical CD in my car and we play the 'new-age' CD to our 10 week daughter to ease her to sleep - it works a treat and the music hasn't started to grate on our nerves. It's not really 'new-age' it's just that I don't know how better to describe it really. The other two CDs we will leave playing until she advances in age.
The CDs come package with a handy track-listing booklet - but wait there's more: to save embarassment there are words for the nursery rhymes. Additionally, ... Read More:

I only found out about this compilation when I heard that the ASV label had been shut down and that all its titles were out of print. As some stocks remained, I looked through the ASV titles to see what I should try to buy while I still could and discovered this wonderful compilation of train songs.

I've reviewed several compilations of train songs, but most of the others are dominated by country music. While this compilation contains some country music, it contains a variety of other styles including jazz and swing. So although I was already familiar with some of the songs, I was only familiar with a few of these particular versions.

This collection also includes Teddy Bears picnic! A wonderful CD. I was born in the 60s and a lot of these records found their way on to the radio well into the 70s. We have just had our own baby and I thoroughly recommend this album for waking a sleepy baby up. This album will bring a smile to any grown up listening: fond memories and some very humourous lyrics in places!
